Yoga Curriculum

The Shambhava School was one of the first yoga teacher training facilities in the country.  Your curriculum is the product of decades of constant revision and evolution.  Instructors of Shambhava trainings across the country meet throughout the year to discuss the content of the manual and the structure of the training, keeping it up to date with the accelerating evolution of yoga in our culture, and yet still rooted in the tradition of the Shambhava School.

The Asanas Our Level One, 200-hour Teacher Training begins with a focus on 40 classic asanas. You will develop a thorough understanding of the correct structural alignment of each posture, techniques for maintaining a strong inner focus, and methods for using the breath to move in and out of each pose.

Teaching In the second half of the training, we focus on developing your ability to teach. Building upon the foundational knowledge of the asanas, learn to plan classes, develop vinyasas (posture sequences), and offer adjustments. Students take turns teaching other students and receive expert guidance from experienced Shambhava instructors.

Ready Most students leave our program ready to teach a yoga class the week they return.  Others choose to teach their friends and family members for a little while, integrating the training into their yoga practice.  Still others choose not to teach, but use the training as a way of deepening their own personal practice.  All students leave our program with a firm foundation in the principles of yoga.
